First developments at the Unified Patent Court

The Unified Patent Court (UPC) will hold its first two public hearings next month in Munich, Germany. The hearings, scheduled for September 5-6 and September 19, are regarding applications for preliminary injunctions in infringement cases between 10x Genomics and Nanostring Technologies. In addition, the UPC is still facing challenges with information transparency and delays in case filing and publication. There are alternative websites to search for UPC information, and the first major patent dispute over mobile communication and standard-essential patents has been filed. Furthermore, there have been ex parte orders to preserve evidence in Milan, a preliminary injunction issued in Düsseldorf despite a protective letter being filed, and the European Patent Office has published a dashboard revealing the sources of unitary effect requests.
